Natural Purification of Ecosystems

자연정화 기술

EBTL tries to understand the natural purification mechanisms in the ecosystems and to develop green and sustainable ways to facilitate natural purification. To do so, the followings are on-going in EBTL:

  • Biodegradable threshold concentration of organics 

  • Nonbiodegradable organic contents in the natural waters

  • Sorptive concentration of trace organics

  • Booting of biodegradation of concentrated organics

  • Catalytic partial oxidation of nonbiodegrdables to biodegradables

  • Design of in situ natural purification systems

  • Design and operation of natural purification systems 

  • Selection of microorganisms and community control

Urban Mining 

도시광산 기술

A new green urban mining is another EBTL's research focus. We try to look for new and green ways to recover valuable metals (Pt, Au, Pd, Rh, Ag, etc) from urban mines such as electronic vehicle batteries, solar panels, industrial catalysts, PCBs, etc. Our on-going works include:

  • Green leaching of metals from urban mines

  • QSAR modeling for high-throughput screening of green leachants

  • Focused microwave leaching for effective green leaching

  • Concentration of metals by sorpion and incineration

  • Selective sorption based separation and purification  of metals

  • Chromatography process for simultaneous separation and purification of metals
